Simon Kavanagh on RTHK Money Talk
Head of Hong Kong office and Partner Simon Kavanagh spoke to RTHK Radio 3 Money Talk’s Peter Lewis this morning about Hong Kong’s business competitiveness, Fed rates hike, and what Hong Kong can do to avoid being left behind after the quarantine ban. Listen to the podcast again.
Simon said: “I think Hong Kong’s position of being the gateway to China has shifted somewhat. And in future, I think Hong Kong will be China’s gateway to the world, it’s where the mainland companies will come and set up their first bridgehead before they go off and expand overseas.”
“I don’t think it [Hong Kong’s strengths in business] will erode, viewing Hong Kong as a large Chinese city with different characteristics in terms of currency, the rule of law, the capital flow…will remain. Hong Kong will become more attractive for mainland companies to set themselves up here with the stock market and the number of red chip companies are already here…capital flows between mainland and Hong Kong will continue to grow.”
